just breathe...
so i had to take izzy in for a well check-up today, because she had an ear infection last month and her weight and height are quite minimal. some of you already know this, but i am not a huge fan of my pediatrician. she is a little terse and has talked to me like i'm an imbecile before. a friend of mine reassured me that this is common in utah, especially the county i live in, due to the amount of (dumb) young mothers. after knowing this, it makes me want to go in and show her my drivers license, the parenting books i've read and the classes i took izzy to as a baby (called ecfe-early childhood family education-it's like a pre-preschool for you and your baby and is sort of a support/play group too. this is why i love minnesota).
anyway, izzy is quite normal and i think even better than some of the other kids in nursery as far as mental development goes. she can do everything that she is supposed to do for her age and even a tiny bit more, and i don't credit any of it to milk or the numerous amounts of fat that my pediatrician has prescribed i give her. yes, i understand that babies/toddlers need it. yes, i know that there are certain vitamins and nutrients in milk and other dairy products that other foods don't have. BUT i don't see why my kid has to be in a specific percentile to be healthy.
she is not malnourished at all. she eats things that most kids won't ever eat until they're grown-ups. she is happy and vibrant and smart and responsive and sociable and can sign and talk. so seriously, pediatrician?! what am i doing wrong?!!!!!

I had the same problem with Utah county pediatricians! So so frustrating. I'm sure nothing is wrong. It seems like a lot of pediatricians have this cookie cutter mold that they think every child should fit in. I think you should tell her to stuff it. Too strong?? Nah. We just got a great doc in sugarhouse if you want to make the drive. :)
i took izzy in last week cuz i thought she had an ear infection, and i got the doc on-call. he happens to be a kid doc, and izzy and i both liked him. i think i am just gonna switch. i just don't like being told i have to give my kid a ton of supplements just to "be healthy." maybe i have the problem.
Oh posh! Your Dr. is stupid. The percentile rating is based on 1950s farm babies. Who breeds giant white babies with big heads? Not everyone. I can tell you that Asher has been in the 10th percentile and below since forever and he's pretty darn smart to me. He also was born 3.5 weeks early and rolled over 10 times from stomach to back ten times at two weeks, started walking at 10 months, and has always had these sharp listening eyes. He moved developed physically faster than his age group and exceeded the expectation of a premature kid. So as I said your Dr. sucks, each child comes with his/her own DNA makeup, she should know that. She's fine, you're petite, I fully expect your daughter to be a bit petite. Dumb doctor. Go to someone who doesn't make you feel bad. Never feel bad for doing your best.
Izzy is so sweet.. I swear some kids are just small, but healthy ( Naomi is the same) I have a question for you: One of my coworkers just had her girl diagnosed with peanut and egg allergies.. DO you have any good websites that you can reccomend to her for more info and such.. let me know you can email me.. Urania_r@hotmail.com
She is a beautiful smart girl and you have nothing to worry about. Silly Utah ;)
i'm glad to hear that you're thinking of leaving that jerk doctor. the thing about doctors is that they are also businesses and there's no reason to give your business to someone who doesn't deserve it. i mean, unless the doctor is a miracle worker and has figured out how to cure temper tantrums or something there's no excuse for treating you like a moron. (this is also why i prefer to see the nurse practitioner in my pediatrician's office. less attitude.)
Izzy is just fine. You aren't doing anything wrong. That's a stupid doctor! There is nothing wrong with what my awesome sister-in-law is doing or with my favorite niece!!
