so i have put off buying and eating all organic as a whole, because i just wasn't really into the idea of paying more for food that looked smaller, older and generally less-appealing. however, i just finished watching this movie:

i can't remember which friend or acquaintance mentioned or recommended it, but i wasn't ready to watch it until now. man oh man, was i in for an awakening. i mean, i've read "the jungle" and known that there are pesticides and weird stuff that goes on in the food industry. obviously. i've gotten food poisoning a few times, but for some reason, i always thought that it was my fault for "choosing" the food that i had. i've also worked a couple of waitressing jobs and was a pizza chef (first job), so i know what kinds of gross things can happen. trust me, you don't want to know. this movie sort of reiterated more the importance of how i need to choose better for myself and for my family.
i already cook practically every day for my family, but there are still a few things that we buy/eat that we could change. even though it costs more money, i think i want to try and buy as much organic as i possibly can. i would like to make more things from scratch, and this is where my baking skills are going to have to take a step up. perhaps a baking class? i don't think i can stop eating meat. it seems impossible for me and my family right now, so i would like to try and seek out locally-farmed and butchered meat options. does anyone know a good place to go for that in utah? also, i am going to seek to get better at growing plants/veggies/herbs again. my thumb is so black, it might as well be frostbitten.
anyway, i know a lot of this can't happen overnight. i just know that i'd like to be more conscious of what i eat by supporting more local growers and farmers in general. i already read labels like crazy (for izzy), but now i am going to be more diligent about it. i want to instill healthy eating into my family, especially my kids, because i don't want them to end up with type II diabetes like most in my family or even dying from tainted food. and hopefully...just hopefully, there will be a good change in my efforts.
i guess this is kind of a resolution for me, but i hope that i can carry it through the years to come.
