camera advice
hey all you photography buffs. pete and i need to buy a new camera, because we lost ours. or maybe it was stolen. we don't know. we have not had a good year for electronics.
anyway, we want something reasonably-priced but at a good value. i know a lot of you actually have super nice cameras, as you are amazing photographers. but i figure you would know a little about other models too, right? any suggestions for a good point-n-shoot? or should we invest in a better model? what brands are best?
obviously, we want to take pictures of the baby. but we also want to take great shots of travels and whatnot, random candids, and do some night shots and close-ups. i'm not versed in the photo terminology, and you probably have seen how crummy my pics are. so maybe you can tell me what i need to do to take better pics or what camera will help me do so.

Bella used our old one as a hammer, so we needed a new one. National Camera recommended this one as tough/reasonably priced/good quality.
i have a fujifilm finepix camera. i really like it. it's a point and shoot, but you can also change it to manual aperture and shutter speed, if you want. i use that part all the time when i am taking product shots. it also takes really nice photos in automatic, it takes some video, and it has a big screen on the back - oh and face recognition... you probably want that if you are taking a lot of pics of people. oh - and don't worry about megapixels really. the camera only needs about 6 to take good shots. the sensor size is more important.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Panasonic Lumix! It was not super expensive and is easy to use. I would be happy to bring it to your new home.
we have a cannon powershot sd600 elf. it is a nice and small and a good value. you also can't go wrong with nikon. i think our next camera might be a nikon.
a lot of times target will clearance their small electronics right before the holidays to make room for new models. we've gotten pretty good deals that way!
my recomendation is always Canon, because they make the best lenses and the lens is everything in photography. you can't mimic a good lens. i also know from consumer reports that they are rated at the top two or three (in the consumer category). go cannon and go eos with a removable lens. if you don't want a bulky camera go with a powershot or an elph.

SLR's rock. I want one when we buy a new camera. Costco sells one by Nokia that I would consider when that time comes. But I'll have to be so careful b/c I'm butterfingers w/the camera we have now. I think it's around $500-600?? You can always try it out with Costco's ridiculous return policy.
