my thin skin

i understand most moms are proud of their kid's reaching milestones or surpassing them even, but is it really necessary to tell me how "far behind" my child is? do i care that your child reached such-n-such milestone 2 months before my kid?

my answer? no. i don't care. good for you or whatever.

but, be a little considerate. show some humility. you're breaking the unspoken rule about how rude it is to brag and tell people how supposedly-awesome your kid is over theirs. oh? you've never heard that? well, learn it. otherwise, my big mouth is going to have a hard time keeping shut.

since most babies look like winston churchill, i figured i would make izzy a mini winston for the day. or the minute, rather.



here she is taking a nap on a rather hairy, but handsome man. she's not a chubby baby, but she is getting longer. i hope she is taller than my namesake.




this last one is in an outfit my mother-in-law (g-ma, but i really like gammy) gave us. it was supposed to be for pete's sister who is now 22, but i guess she never got the chance to wear it. it's so 80s, i love it. still a bit big, but she may be able to fill it out by the end of the summer.

izzy really likes to have one hand up by her head. usually behind her head. almost like she is posing for a picture. she is really touching her hair when she does that. i know all you bald babies out there are jealous. don't hate.

but just look at her. doesn't that face make you melt?

the smiles are coming more and more now. i can't wait for the laughter. btw, 2 things she loves to smile at that crack me up. the cactus and a light fixture on the ceiling that looks like a boob. sooooo funny.

printing press for sale

so pete and i have this antique printing press in one of the properties that he renovated this past year, and we want to get it out of the house and sell it. i know it's worth something, but i don't know what. i don't know what brand or company made it. i just know it's old, and there are a ton of plates and other stuff that the previous homeowners left behind. for something this big, i think that a lot of other presses are going for $1500 or more. am i wrong? does anyone out there know? eva?

random question #2

what has happened with the elderly of today?

usually, you hear that stated about the youth. however, after getting flipped off on the road by an elderly gentleman...i do wonder. apparently, he was mad at me for not driving into oncoming cars at this intersection. he honked and honked and honked. i, and everyone else around was confused as to why he was so impatient. "guh. i'm trying not to get myself killed today grandpa. i've got a few more legs to go..."

everytime i look at izzy, i have a hard time thinking i will be away from her...(tear)

baby vs. mommy - the bottle war

i know all babies are different, and everyone has/had a way to get their babies to take the bottle. i think i have read or heard a billion different ways to get your baby to transition from the breast to the bottle. i don't want izzy to only drink from the bottle. i plan on still nursing from time-to-time. i just want her to be able to stay with someone else for more than a couple of hours, so i can do more than just be a milk factory. i have to go back to work in a month or so, and i don't want her to cry all day from hunger. i would feel so bad for her and for her caregiver.

anyway, has anyone won this battle with their child? was there anything that you did that helped? any bottles that you used that most simulated a "natural" nipple for the baby? i have the soothie bottle and the playtex drop-ins bottle. i got the soothie, since it is the only brand of pacifier that izzy will tolerate (she's not a fan of binkies in general). i got the playtex one, because it seems a little bit more natural than others.

send any advice you have. i may have heard it all already, but maybe not. i am not backing down in this war, and izzy is going to eventually lose...eventually...
