my thin skin

i understand most moms are proud of their kid's reaching milestones or surpassing them even, but is it really necessary to tell me how "far behind" my child is? do i care that your child reached such-n-such milestone 2 months before my kid?

my answer? no. i don't care. good for you or whatever.

but, be a little considerate. show some humility. you're breaking the unspoken rule about how rude it is to brag and tell people how supposedly-awesome your kid is over theirs. oh? you've never heard that? well, learn it. otherwise, my big mouth is going to have a hard time keeping shut.

Oh no they didn't, girlfriend!
Good grief. Einstein couldn't tie his shoes for the longest time and look what he accomplished. I was a great shoe-tier early on, but I don't think I am capable of anything even remotely close to the theory of relativity.
Eff that, man. Izzy will do her thing when she is good and ready and those other mommies need to be more respectful and tactful. Everyone develops differently. If we were all the same, then we would be characters in Brave New World.

oh, i remember that whole thing all too well. you definitely have the right attitude. i let what people think get to me too much. my mother-in-law told me point-blank: if ocean did not crawl before he walked he would never be able to learn how to read. i almost cried. all of my worrying didn't make ocean crawl any sooner. and now (that he's crawling) i've learned that everyone learns these things eventually. it's part of becoming human. everyone would always tell me oh you don't want him to do this or that because then things get harder. (but, i never believed them) and now i know it's true. i'm in no hurry for ocean to walk. i can't even keep up with him crawling. it is harder. but, if all else fails: just say, hey, my kids cuter than yours!
