Welcome To Our World Little Alien...We Come in Peace

Well everyone. The big day finally arrived and we couldn't be more excited. Everyone is healthy and doing well. Maybe a little sleep deprived, but I think that goes without saying. Anyway, let me break down the time line of events.

4/28/08
1:30 a.m. - Amanda's water breaks. She turns on the light and says "Pete I think my water broke." Pete says "What, are you sure?"

1:34 - Amanda starts taking a shower. Pete falls back asleep.

1:50 - Amanda comes back in. A 10 minute discussion ensues where Pete and Amanda reference some books and try to determine if Amanda's water broke. They finally decide that it did.

2:00 - Pete takes a shower. Gathers last minute items and they head to the hospital around 2:45 a.m.

Sometime soon after - Amanda and Pete arrive at the hospital. The nurse determines that indeed Amanda's water broke. They are sent to the birthing room.

4:00 a.m. - Amanda and Pete get settled in their new temporary home.

7:00 a.m - Amanda & Pete get a little bit of sleep.

10:30 - Epidural. By the way future fathers, even if your wife doesn't want an epidural, you should try to convince them to get one for, at the least, your sanity.

2:30 p.m. - Amanda dilates to 10cm.

2:50 p.m - We start getting that baby into the world (And by we I mean Amanda).

3: 39 p.m. - Isadora Bea Faleschini is born! By the way I watched her being born and it was the coolest most extraordinary, beautiful thing I have ever seen. It's one of those experiences where you hear fathers say seeing my baby born was life changing and you can't understand until you see it.

3:43 - Flowers from People First Recoveries arrives (The company Pete works for)

4:21 p.m. - Calls and text messages are sent.

4:23 p.m. - G-Ma Faleschini arrives with flowers and giant smile.

5:30 p.m. - Izzy gets her first bath.

5:45 p.m. - Izzy finally eats.

12:00 a.m. - Finally some sleep.

i told you it would be a werewolf

today, pete told me something that his brother had told him a little while ago. it's not something that i don't believe, but it seems like it could be another old wive's tale. i kind of like it though, because it means that something might happen tonight (if i'm lucky).

apparently, there is some talk about birthing centers being staffed heavily on nights that there is a full moon. something about how women experience contractions, sometimes false labor, or their water actually breaks. you know how they say that the moon's gravitational pull has an effect on the tides? well, it is believed by some that it can affect the fluid in the amniotic sac. jigga what?

i've been busily grabbing last minute items to head out sometime tonight, if that is really the case. i'm not really that superstitious. i'm just anxious and exhausted. and...i don't want to finish my last week of work. i know. so bad.


so if my baby is delivered tonight, i hope that "thriller" is playing in the background.



p.s. i also learned that i need to be more patient in this pregnancy, but it's really hard to considering that sleeping is not an option and my limbs are replicas of doll parts.

can't be good anymore

i was not the healthiest person on this pregnancy, but then again who is? i think i did relatively well considering that i avoided getting gestational diabetes (since it runs in my family) and i've gained a pretty typical amount of weight for my height. i was a bit over, but a lot of the extra weight in this last trimester is some serious water retention. i have the cabbage patch kids legs and feet to prove it.

every once in a while, i try to treat myself with small doses of sugar. this last week or so, i don't really care that much anymore. this baby is going to taste the good life right before i make her eat healthy stuff again.

tonight we are going here at the infamous mall of america (or better known to us as "mall of malaria"):



and you know what i am going to get? a delicious milkshake. i'm going to drink a milkshake. i'm going to drink it up!

wish i didn't have to

although my cats are naughty and can drive me crazy, i can't bring myself to getting rid of them with the introduction of my child into our family unit. so...now i have to get this monstrosity:



these are supposed to help naughty kitties out of the crib and keep your exploring toddler in too. so i guess it is good. i just wish they didn't look so weird.

if anyone has kitties and has had some success keeping them out of a crib without the crib tent, please let me know.

p.s. for those who don't already know or have forgotten, i am due on the 28th of april. so 12 more days!

my team at work threw me a baby shower today, and it was very nice. i wasn't expecting much, since i have a small group of coworkers. we also don't make tons of money, and i know we all budget quite a bit.

however, i got this as my "big" gift at my shower.



so now i have the 2 bedding sets from the dwell studio line at target! i am so elated, and i heart my team now. i think they are as excited as i am to have a baby. i think i need to make them thank you treats this weekend.

*to clarify, my coworkers bought me the bedding set plus the other items within this line. not the crib.

it's a zine thing

so i got a $30 giftcard for magazines.com at one of my baby showers, and i am contemplating which magazines i want to get. pete and i want to learn some new recipes or ways to cook our favorite ones. i've always liked this one:



i,like veeda, enjoy this magazine a lot too. i know i can't and won't be able to travel a ton now that my extra cash will go toward kids, but i can still dream...and plan, right? maybe i may end up winning the contest they always run in this magazine.



i love this magazine too and not just because becca gholdston works for them. i don't think i have ever done any of the projects from this magazine, but i will one day. it's just fun to see all the creativity and ideas that are in there.



pete and i also want to get a parenting magazine too, but we don't know which one is good or even remotely useful. i almost just want to splurge and get "real simple," because it's sort of family-oriented. i mean, isn't it? anyone have any good recommendations?

just a few more things

pete and i are almost finished getting all the things we need for baby faleschini. we're holding off on a few things we figure people will probably not get for us (either because of price or because they really like getting the clothes...and i don't blame them), because you get a discount on anything that isn't purchased on your registry at babies 'r us and target.

one of the things that i have been cooing over for a little while are these mobiles by flensted. i don't really like any of the ones that i have seen in the most of the baby stores or catalogs, but these mobiles online are dreadfully adorable. i think my favorite, by far, is the bunny one. for my little bunny.

now i just have to find a website that isn't sold out on them.
